Since I’m now going to be taking this blogging thing seriously, I decided that every Sunday, I will post about something we all love: food.

I was craving pasta all week and today I chose to give in. Of course, I had to make something that is easy, fast and cheap because I am busy, lazy and broke :). That’s why I decided to stick with what I usually make: creamy tomato spaghetti. I’ll show you how it’s done.

First, here’s what you’re gonna need:

IMGP0528

200 grams spaghetti

200 grams spaghetti sauce

1/2 cup cheddar cheese, grated

250 ml All-purpose cream

5 pieces jumbo hot dogs

2 cloves of garlic, minced

salt and pepper

Feel free to substitute if you’re feeling fancy. You can opt for Hungarian sausage instead of hot dogs, Parmesan cheese instead of Filipino cheddar cheese such as Eden cheese. You can also use any brand of the ingredients listed according to your preference.

Cooking instructions are pretty easy:

  1. Cook pasta according to package instructions. Set aside.
  2. Saute minced garlic.
  3. Add in hot dogs.
  4. Once hot dogs are cooked, stir in the spaghetti sauce. Bring to a boil.
  5. Adjust the heat to low and add the all-purpose cream.

In case you forgot to pick up some all-purpose cream from the grocery store or you’re just on a really tight budget, I’ll let you in on a secret my best friend shared to me. You can use this:

Yep. You saw it right. Powdered milk. My best friend and I use Bear Brand. You can use any brand of powdered milk you want but we like this because it’s creamy. You can use two 33 gram packs of powdered milk for this recipe. Stir it on two-thirds of a cup of hot water. Stir well to make sure there aren’t any lumps.

6.  Add your grated cheese. You have to constantly stir so the sauce doesn’t stick to your pan (if you’re not using a non-stick pan) and also to avoid lumps.

7. Add some salt and pepper to taste.

And that’s it. Here’s the finished product:

Yes I know. I suck at plating.

Very simple right? You can even mince some red bell pepper and stir it into the sauce to give it some oomph. This recipe feeds three people (or two very hungry ones). I use this recipe almost all the time when I’m cooking spaghetti for my friends and they like it a lot. Today, I shared it with my niece and my brother while we watched horror movies. :)

So there you have it, my cheap and easy creamy tomato spaghetti (that didn’t sound right LOL). I’ll share some fancy pasta recipes too, but that will be for another blog post. Enjoy!
